PACE mission to observe Azerbaijani parliamentary election

Azerbaijan’s parliamentary election will be observed by a mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), composed of 30 representatives of various parties.

The observer mission will be headed by Spanish parliamentarian, Jordi Xucla, Secki-2015.az website reported citing PACE press service.

The mission is planning to hold meetings with Azerbaijani parliament’s leadership, the heads and members of parliamentary friendship groups, as well as members of opposition parties and movements not represented in parliament.

The mission members also intend to hold meetings with representatives of civil society and the media. On election day PACE parliamentarians will observe the voting process in different regions of Azerbaijan.

Venice Commission, consisting of a group of independent experts from the Council of Europe, will accompany the delegation to discuss the legal framework of the election.

On Sept. 21-22 a pre-election delegation of PACE visited Azerbaijan and had numerous meetings in the country.

Since 1974, PACE has been an observer at almost 150 elections in different countries.

Azerbaijan will hold its parliamentary election Nov. 1.
