“The two countries are working on creating a joint intergovernmental commission”.

The US and Azerbaijan have years-long cooperation in the military sphere. We welcome the military cooperation with Azerbaijan, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta told reporters on July 19.

Azerbaijan participated in numerous peacekeeping missions in various countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo, the ambassador said, noting that thanks to these missions, Azerbaijan has managed to improve its military capability and combat effectiveness.

The ambassador said Azerbaijan also contributes to resolving a number of global issues.

The diplomat went on to add that regular contacts between the two countries are of great importance in terms of interstate relations.

As for the remarks made by US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland on the possibility of creating a joint intergovernmental commission with Azerbaijan, Mr Cekuta said the two countries are working on this direction.

“This issue is about to be solved. Bilateral talks are underway. Nuland herself kept in touch with Azerbaijani top officials. You know, preparations are necessary for these important initiatives.”
